Owl or Lark?

Are you an owl or a lark? Knowing and accepting your natural tendencies can help you be more productive. Owls are night creatures and larks are those who take advantage of the early day and mornings. We are usually one or the other.

  • Observe who you are - a lark or owl. Accept it and delight in your being.

  • Work to schedule your activities and tasks around your natural tendencies. Don't create unnecessary work for yourself by planning against your nature.

  • Understand and acknowledge the owl or lark tendencies of your friends and family members. Don't expect deep conversation from an owl early in the day, or late night discussions with a lark later in the day. Accept the morning or evening tendencies of your friends, co-workers and family. Learn to work with them by their style instead of trying to make them someone they are not.

By working with your true nature as well as others, you will be more incline to be the productive and accepting person you want to be.

This is a best of post from 2010.

Change of Seasons - Change of Patterns

Fall is creeping up upon those who reside in the Northern Hemisphere. The evidence of shorter days are visually apparent to me as I have been walking my dog about 8:00 pm each night most of the summer season.

Now, with the approach of fall, I have begun to readjust and start my daily dog walking earlier in the evening.

My dog evidently runs his own days with the passing of light. He wants to be fed earlier in the evening and therefore desires to start his walk after he has been fed. He has also been sleeping in later. He doesn't always get up when I begin my day, but strolls into the kitchen later as if to say "Hey you're up too early. This doesn't make sense".

For those in the Southern Hemisphere, I am sure you are enjoying the expanding hours of daily sunlight and the warming weather.

Let's not forget to observe and celebrate the seasons and the change of patterns that come from them.

Visiting Type City

I came across this http://www.veer.com/ideas/typecity/gallery.aspx">site today and was truly mesmerized.

OK after a while the music started to lull me into stasis - (see the Wikipedia science fiction definition I intended, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stasis_%28fiction%29 )
but it was a great little "free" trip without packing a bag.

The Type City site is accessed by a very small link at the bottom left. It says start here , I missed it the first time -and when I returned again I did go on the excursion. Don't forget to use your up and down and side to side keys. I suggest letting your fingers do a little musical dance and you will get to explore a wide expanse of work. This is a great way to take a break.

The Veer.com site, a New York advertising firm, has a wonderful collection of typefaces - one of their specialties. A visit reminded me of advertising and marketing days when you had used letterpress transfer sheets to create posters and signs.

Enjoy the adventure. Warning.....don't let the music get to you! Trust me, it will lull you to sleep, complacency or drive you over the edge.

Other sites to visit if you like info about typefaces http://www.typographia.org/ and if you like the concept of black and white visit this interesting website http://blackwhitebliss.blogspot.com
